"I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma."
~Eartha Kitt
By nature, I love to learn. When I was younger, I got a history encyclopedia for Christmas one year and the spine is now falling apart because of the number of times I have thumbed through it. thus, my love for history. I have a science encyclopedia as well, and even though it's not as well worn as my history one, I've still been fascinated by it. My passion lies with learning - learning to succeed, learning to help others...To me, knowledge is the fruit of life. Knowledge is the intangible, the priceless gift that you receive from living. It is something that you can only receive by being truly alive - and that is what makes it so precious to me.
There is something exciting about viewing everything in life with insatiable curiosity, with a desire to find out more. Without that desire - where is the joy in every day life? View each day as a new day to learn something and all of a sudden, your boring, mundane, life becomes a quest - an exciting journey akin to the Fellowship of the Ring! (ok, maybe not quite.)
My point is, being a part of JJ Express Magazine, and actually being a part of the entire changemaking network around the world has forced me to learn things. Did you know that I checked out books from the library on fund raising development? Did you know that I devoured a book called "Managing Non-profits" by Peter Drucker and thoroughly enjoyed it? Did you know that the next thing on my reading list is a book called "Life Entrepreneurs"? If it weren't for JJ Express Magazine, I doubt I would have ever picked up those books. I'm also reading about Paganini and Elvis Presley for our next issue - based loosely on music.
So become a part of something. Learn something. Go.
DID YOU KNOW: Originally, the first line to Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" was "I'm sitting by a pool in Beverly Hills dreaming of a White Christmas." A friend suggested to him that he drop the reference to Beverly Hills, and the song went on to become the most commercially successful song ever.
